Dr. Jianbo Zhang was a Ph.D student supervised by Prof. Xiaojia Chen from Department of Materials Physics and chemistry at South China University of Technology in Guangzhou, China, and obtained his Ph.D degree recently. During Sept. 2012-Aug. 2014, Jianbo was awarded as an Excellent Predoctoral Associate to work at High-Pressure Synergetic Center (HPSynC) locating at Argonne National Laboratory. His research interest mainly focuses on studying the pressure- induced high-temperature-superconductivity in cuprates by using x-ray diffraction, Raman scattering, magnetic susceptibility, and electric transport measurements.

Dr. Pengfei Shan graduated from Harbin Institute of Technology for a B. S. degree, and then got a Ph. D. degree from Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences supervised by Prof. Jinguang Cheng in 2024. His research focuses on exploring novel superconducting materials under high pressure, with a particular emphasis on hydride superconductors, via electrical transport measurements combining with Laser Heating synthetic method.

Dr. T Nakagawa received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from University of Durham, United Kingdom, in 2010. He joined HPSTAR as a postdoctoral research fellow in September 2018. His research interests focused on the study of characteristics of carbon-rich organic molecular solids, such as Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons and Fullerenes. He combined Chemistry and High Pressure Science to discover novel physical properties and enhance their functionalities. He continues to work in HPSTAR as Specialist associate staff scientist.

Dr. Bijuan Chen

Now she is a postdoc at Harvard University.
Dr. Bijuan Chen was awarded her PhD degree incondensed matter physics from Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China, in June 2016 under the supervision of Prof. Changqing Jin, and obtained her bachelor’s degree in 2011 at Sichuan University. From 2012 to 2015, she was awarded three times of Institute Chief Scholarship of IOP, CAS and two times of Excellent Student Cadre award of UCAS. Her research interestin HPSTAR mainly focus on the studies of mixed valent behaviors, exotic magnetism, quantum phase transition and superconductivity in f electron materials under extreme pressures using X ray spectroscopy and neutron scattering.

Hongshan Deng

Now he is a postdoc at National University of Singapore.
Hongshan Deng obtainedhis Master Degree of condensed matter physics from the Hunan Normal University in2016. He was a joint student at group EX06, Institute of Physics, Chinese academyof Sciences from 2014.2 to 2016.4 and majored in high pressure experiment physics. His experience includes sample synthesis using high temperature and high pressure and conventionalsolid state method; structure measurement using x ray diffraction; transport, thermal and magnetic properties measurement using the physical property measurement system (PPMS) and superconducting quantum interference device magnetometer (MPMS). He is also familiar with software such as Powder X, Diamond, Origin and GSAS and Fullprof. During his graduate study, hehas being focused on the strongly correlated electron systems (mainly 5dOs series oxides); multiferroic materials and multi-functional spintronic materials. He is now under the supervision of Dr. Yang Ding and would pursue his PhD degree in future.

Dr. Raimundas Sereika

Now he is a postdoc at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Dr. Raimundas Sereika received his Ph.D. in condensed matter physics from the Vilnius University of Lithuania in 2013. Since then he has worked as a scientific researcher and Lecturer at the Faculty of Physics and Technology of Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences. In 2016, he joined HPSTAR as postdoctoral researcher. Dr. Sereika’s research is in the area of condensed matter and materials physics. His previous experiences include preparation and characterization of various semiconducting, ferroelectric materials. The main area of interest phase transitions, lattice dynamics, and electronic structure. Research conducted using standard laboratory techniques in line with quantum mechanical modeling based on Density Functional Theory. In recent years, scientific focus was mostly on material’s characterization at extreme conditions – high pressures and varied temperature through the synchrotron facilities at Advanced Photon Source, Advanced Light Source in USA and Spring-8 in Japan.
