We adopt materials science approaches to investigate Earth Science problems, focusing on the deformation and microstructures of rocks and minerals, especially ice.
Our research centers on the Four "D"s: Defects, Diffusion, Dislocations, and Deformation. The overarching goal of our research group is to explore the physical processes and underlying mechanisms of deformation through laboratory experiments, with subsequent extension of these findings to Earth and planetary (satellite) bodies—such as Mars and Callisto.
