Impact processes play a key role in planetary formation and evolution, and impact craters serve as natural sites for materials that have experienced extreme pressures. Compared to the millions of impact craters preserved on the Moon, only<200 impact craters have been discovered on Earth, largely due to Earth’s active geological processes.
To date, five impact craters—Xiuyan, Yilan, Baijifeng, Hailin, and Jinlin—have been identified in China, all of which were discovered by our group. We currently focuses on the shock metamorphism of rocks and minerals, as well as the impact cratering processes associated with these craters.
